HYPNOSIS
You don't need a Hypnotist to be hypnotized!
Contrary to belief hypnosis is a natural state we each visit many times each day. From daydreaming to visiting the bathroom, driving to eating lunch, watching TV to walking in the park, all of these are connected with a hypnotic state. Many people presume that hypnotic states can not happen without the presence of a hypnotist or someone to ‘do’ the hypnotizing. This is not the case. Hypnosis is a state of relaxation which allows your brain wave cycles to slow from the rapid BETA cycles to the more powerful ALPHA and THETA levels. Similar to meditation, this enables both left and right sides of the brain to connect and access wondrous possibilities as a result. While in this state you do not sleep and you always have control. You can never be made to do anything against your will. In fact the hypnotherapist can not make you do anything at all. It is always you who ‘makes’ the change through the assistance of the suggestions offered by the therapist on your behalf.
Hypnosis & the Unconscious Mind
Your unconscious mind is not a ‘thing’. Your mind is all one whole. The word is used just so we can get a handle on the idea that we process information on different levels of awareness. For example, you learn to ride a bike consciously, but over time, riding a bike becomes automatic ie. unconscious. Hypnosis is a bridge building tool. It enables a pathway to the immense resources of our natural intelligence. Basically it may be considered a process of developing and strengthening the relationship between the ‘you’ you know and the ‘you’ you truly are. Your unconscious mind is the link between the physical and the non-physical. Through your unconscious mind you are connected to everything everywhere and everywhen. It is what looks after all the processes in the body. It stores your memories and presents your misaligned beliefs for review. It does so much and wants you to attain your highest dreams and potential. While it is the ‘administrator’ in the background, you remain the director. Not the dictator. The goal is always a win-win result. That is where hypnosis comes in. Hypnosis provides a way to communicate with your unconscious mind. This communication is designed to create options, choices and new links to powerful inner resources to deliver the qualities necessary for the transformation you seek.
“Bring your unconscious mind to the table of your reality by including it in your every interaction and endeavour. Say “Let’s learn this” or “Let’s rearrange this so that it flows easily” or “Lets live life in ways that are both fun and healthy”. Remain conscious that you are one being divided only on one ‘side’ for your Unconscious mind is already aware of your wholeness.” Dr. Tad James. From his book “Hypnosis, A Comprehensive Guide”
